Darryl W. Roberts, PhD, MS, RN, FHIMSS

During his career, Dr. Roberts has addressed a broad range of topics from public health improvement programs in psychiatry, pulmonology, and chemical exposure to impact evaluations of federal policies like HIPAA and the Violence Against Women Act—often focusing on the balance between the burdens of information gathering and the value of information gathered. After making the unusual transition from Navy Nuclear Power electrician to nurse, he strived to translate the tenets of high-reliability organizations (HROs) that he learned on an aircraft carrier—the most rigorous of HROs—into healthcare. He carried many of those tenets into his work as an informatics professor and performance improvement scientist. Dr. Roberts’s efforts have influenced multidisciplinary healthcare delivery in diverse settings across the U.S and. internationally. His current work at General Dynamics Information Technology continues to drive towards improved outcomes through higher reliability paired with lower burden.

In addition to his work on the HIMSS NCA Board, he volunteers for a variety of boards and committees, including the IEEE Standards Association P2795 Working Group, the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) Informatics and Technology Expert Panel, the AAN Quality and Safety Expert Panel, and others. He previously served on the mHIMSS Advisory Committee, the IOM Roundtable on Value & Science-Driven Health Care, and the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Task Force on Performance Measures. He is also an avid long-distance road cyclist. Darryl's LinkedIn profile: click here
